Thurs. 20th April. Lion Hotel, Cambridge. A public meeting for CT&CC subscribers resolved to play club matches for this season on Parker’s Piece. Arguments for using the new ground included its relative comfort compared to Parker’s Piece where subscriber’s tent-seats were occupied by non- subscribers, there was occasional disorderly conduct and frequent bad manners, and the ground was infringed upon. Arguments against included that "we contribute our money for the general welfare and enjoyment of the many hundreds who cannot afford to pay to see the game." "...it was believed that the presence of the public on these occasions...had a good and exhilarating effect on the whole, and contributed to the gratification of a large number of loyal and respectable subjects who were not parties to the game." "We hope...that subscriptions will at once be paid up, or the committee will not feel inclined to make good matches for the ensuing season." "...the most kind feeling was expressed toward Mr Fenner" and a benefit match in his honour was suggested. CIP 22nd April, C Ad 26th p 2/3.
